Fanfare Mechanique
was first performed by the North Hunterdon High School Band, under the direction of Vince Angeline in the spring of 2011.

This was my first attempt at writing an original piece for wind ensemble. I was hoping to make the music fun to play for each member of the band. I also wanted to create lots of percussion parts to keep them interested throughout the rehearsal and performance process.
Compositionally, you'll find I experiment with shifting feels, without shifting meter very often. I was interested in how those subtle shifts would effect the experience of the listener. I learned that the audience can absorb a whole lot more and that the shifts were, indeed, a bit too subtle.

The piece has a drive that makes it stand alone within the concert band repertoire
