When I began my Sunday morning career as a church organist in 2008, our Welsh pastor, the Reverend David Jones, introduced me to this hymn, as it was one of his favorites.
I was attracted to this tune because it reminded me of Vince Guaraldi's music from the
Peanuts cartoons.

I discovered that the melody worked when played in canon, one measure apart. I thought it would be a challenge to attempt to maintain the strictest of rules
throughout the composition, drawing inspiration from J.S. Bach, who often composed
in a similar manner. About two-thirds of the way through, the melodic shape of the pedal
canon is inverted.
